Frequently asked questions
The questions we are actually asked
Everything below is answered the way Dr. Shyyada Banu would answer it on the phone. If your question is not here, message us and you will get a straight reply rather than a booking prompt.
Before you book
- Do I need a doctor's referral to see a physiotherapist?
- No. You can book directly with us. If the assessment turns up something that needs medical review, imaging or a specialist opinion, we will tell you clearly and write to your doctor.
- Do I need an X ray or MRI scan first?
- Usually not. Scans routinely show disc bulges, tears and arthritic changes in people who have no pain at all, so an image on its own rarely explains symptoms. The examination is what identifies the source. If a scan would genuinely change the plan, we will say so.
- How do I know whether physiotherapy is the right thing for my problem?
- Message us on WhatsApp and describe what is going on. If it is not something physiotherapy helps, we would rather tell you before you book than after you have paid for an appointment.
- Can I speak to someone before booking?
- Yes. Call or message the clinic on +91 88008 96463 and you can talk through the problem first. There is no charge for that conversation.
Your first appointment
- What happens in the first session?
- A detailed history of what happened and what makes it better or worse, a physical examination with movement and hands on testing, a plain language explanation of what we found, and treatment started the same day along with the specific things to do before the next visit.
- How long does an appointment last?
- The first appointment runs around 45 to 60 minutes because the assessment takes time. Follow up sessions are usually 30 to 45 minutes.
- What should I wear?
- Loose, comfortable clothing you can move in. For a lower limb or back problem, shorts are ideal. For a shoulder or neck problem, a vest or a top with sleeves that move easily. We need to see the area move, so bring something to change into if you are coming from work.
- Should I bring anything with me?
- Any scan reports, discharge summaries or surgical protocols you already have, and a list of medication you are taking. If you do not have any of that, it is not a problem.
- Will treatment hurt?
- Some techniques are uncomfortable and some post surgical work has to push into stiffness to be useful. Sharp pain is a signal we adjust to, not something to push through. We work at a level you can repeat the next day, not one that wipes you out.
- Can I bring someone with me?
- Yes, always. For paediatric, elderly or neurological appointments it genuinely helps, because whoever assists day to day needs to know what to encourage between sessions.
Treatment and recovery
- How many sessions will I need?
- Most musculoskeletal problems settle in 6 to 12 sessions alongside a home programme. Tendon problems and post surgical rehabilitation take longer, often several months, because the tissue itself remodels slowly. You will be given a realistic estimate after the first assessment rather than an open ended commitment.
- How soon will I feel a difference?
- Many people notice a change after the first or second session, partly from treatment and partly from understanding the problem. Lasting change from a loading programme takes around six weeks, because that is how long tissue takes to adapt.
- Do I have to do exercises at home?
- Yes, and it is the part that decides your outcome. What happens in the clinic makes movement possible; what you do between sessions is what makes it last. The programme is kept as short as it can be while still working.
- What if my pain comes back later?
- Flare ups happen, especially in the first few months, and they are not a sign the recovery failed. You will leave knowing what to do when one starts. If it does not settle within a couple of weeks, come back in for a review rather than starting over.
- Do you offer dry needling, taping and electrotherapy?
- Yes, where they are indicated. They are useful for short term symptom control, and none of them replaces the exercise and loading work that produces the actual recovery.
Home visits
- What does a home visit involve?
- The same assessment and treatment as a clinic appointment, delivered where you live. We bring a portable treatment couch, resistance bands, weights and electrotherapy where it is needed. Seeing the actual stairs, chair and bathroom someone is struggling with is often useful in itself.
- Who are home visits for?
- Patients who genuinely cannot travel: early post surgical recovery, reduced mobility, advanced age, neurological conditions affecting transfers, and palliative or long term care. Where travel is possible, the clinic is the better place to be treated because the equipment is there.
- Which areas do you cover for home visits?
- Primarily North Bengaluru around Bagalur, Airport Road and the surrounding areas. Ask when you enquire. If you are outside our range we will say so rather than waste your time.
- Do I need to prepare anything at home?
- Nothing. A clear space roughly the size of a bed is plenty. We bring the couch and any equipment the session needs.
Fees and practicalities
- What does a session cost?
- Fees depend on the service and on whether the session is at the clinic or at your home, which carries a travel charge. You will be told the exact figure before you book, and nothing is added afterwards.
- Do you provide an invoice for insurance or reimbursement?
- Yes. Every session can be invoiced, and we can provide a written prescription and treatment record for your employer or insurer on request.
- What are your opening hours?
- Monday to Saturday, 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. Sundays by appointment.
- Where exactly is the clinic?
- KIADB Industrial Area, Airport Road, Bagalur Colony, Bagalur, Bengaluru, Karnataka 562149, in North Bengaluru near the airport road corridor.
- How do I cancel or reschedule?
- Message us on WhatsApp as early as you can. We ask for as much notice as possible so the slot can go to someone else waiting.
